Know Your Characters with Beautiful People

Get to Know Your Characters with Beautiful People by and

Beautiful People is a writing blog meme that is hosted by Cait at Paperfury and Sky at FurtherUpFurtherIn! Each month they post questions for writers to answer about your characters. Seeing as Kara from my Anti-Socialite series is my only repeater (as I love that series so much) I shall answer for her.

Overall, how good is their relationship with their parents?
She gets along with them, but doesn’t talk with them too much. Her mom works overnight, so there isn’t a lot of time. Her dad isn’t home till after six, and after working all day, he’s pretty tired. She despises the fact that he smokes though.

Do they know both their biological parents? If not, how do they cope with this loss/absence and how has it affected their life?
Yes, she knows both of them.

How did their parents meet?
Working at a gas station when they were teenagers.

How would they feel if they were told “you’re turning out like your parent(s)”?
She would probably wonder what they were talking about. Her mother is a lot more chipper than she is, and her father is loud and confrontational.

What were your character’s parents doing when they were your character’s age?
In high school, although her father was already working at the gas station then as well.

Is there something they adamantly disagree on?
They don’t like how Kara has been avoiding getting close to people, and doesn’t tell them when something is wrong.

What did the parent(s) find hardest about raising your character?
With how mature and independent Kara is, they felt they missed out on some of the fun younger years. Kara also had the habit of being a smart aleck.

What’s their most vivid memory with their parental figure(s)?
Being taken care of while she was sick when she was little. Her mother hardly left her side, and her father checked in an unbearable number of times.

What was your character like as a baby/toddler?
Shy and cried a lot.

Why and how did the parents choose your character’s name?
For their love of superheroes, Kara was named after Supergirl.

Hope you enjoyed learning more about Kara and her parents. Did you do beautiful people this month? Head over to check out more Beautiful People answers.
